Introducing the Clover Convertible Bag!
Share
Hello everyone! I am so excited to show you my very first pattern as part of the Bag of the Month Club for 2017. Introducing the Clover Convertible bag:
The Clover is a medium sized bag and as the name implies, it can convert from a backpack to a cross body bag. The pattern comes with instructions to make a train case style bottom as a more advanced option (pictured on the right above). If you're not ready to tackle an advanced sewing pattern or prefer the intermediate version on the left without the train case, I've prepared a tutorial for you that explains how to modify the construction.
Regardless of which version you choose to make, both have 2 exterior zippered pockets under the flap. The flap has a thumb lock (or tongue lock or tuck lock) closure with a handle at the top for carrying. If you prefer a twist lock closure, I've also written a tutorial that explains the steps and modifications required. The interior of the bag has 2 slip pockets and 1 zippered pocket.
You can easily convert from a cross body bag to a backpack and vice versa by changing the strap configuration.
I have several gorgeous tester bags to show you that will demonstrate the bag's features.
First up is a gorgeous version by Michelle Tripp of Barabooboo Designs in Tula Pink Prince Charming fabric with navy vinyl and brass hardware.
Courtney from Skull and Thread made a very Canadian themed bag with buffalo plaid flannel and black vinyl.
Jennifer Greene from Sincerely Jen made this incredible version with Alison Glass Art Theory and black cork!
Sheri Ferraro of Munkee Made also used cork, but for the entire bag. Hers does not have the train case and she increased the height by 4 inches to fit her (adorable) pink Macbook.
Wendy Dunham of W.D. Handbags made another Tula Pink version with the "Elizabeth" collection, Essex linen and black vinyl.
And last but not least, Chera of Phipody Handmade has made a stunner in Cotton and Steel typewriters (one of my favourites!) and Essex linen.
If you haven't purchased your hardware kit yet, you can order one from a hardware supplier in your country. Check out the hardware page on the Bag of the Month club website.
I can't wait to see everyone's Clover bags in the Bag of the Month Club Facebook group!

My sister purchased me a clover convertible bag made by an artist at the Applefest in Franklin, Pa. I live in San Diego and I have the bag which is very nice, However I can use it as a back pack but the middle
clasp in the upper back of the bag is either too small or wrong size or the ring is too thick that I can’t release it to make a cross the body bag. Any suggestions? Thank you Mary
