The Violet Bag - PDF Sewing Pattern
The Violet is a compact bag that is perfect for a night out or for just carrying the
essentials. Violet’s magnetic snap closure keep your belongings securely inside. The
handle connectors are attached with rivets and also act to pull in the bag’s sides, giving it
a great shape. Emmaline Bags sells Violet kits that include a metal strap with swivel
clasps attached at the end but the pattern includes instructions for creating your own
Violet’s interior has a hidden pocket in-between the top seam and the lining. The pocket
is closed with a hidden magnetic snap, but you’re free to use a regular magnetic snap.
The sides add a fun element to the bag with strips of bias tape to give a striped look.
1 fat quarter for side panels
1 fat quarter for main fabric
14” x 10” of vinyl or fabric for top band
1” x WOF for accent binding strip
1/2 yard quilt weight cotton
1.5 yard woven fusible interfacing (20” wide)
1/2 yard fusible fleece (40” wide)
3.5” H x 9.25” W Firm interfacing for Bottom (ex: Peltex or foam)
Notions and supplies:
(1) 18mm magnetic snap
(1) purse chain (length is personal choice)
(4) Purse feet
(2) 1/2” D-rings
(4) medium size rivets
(1) Invisible or regular magnetic snap for pocket
(2) 1” swivel clasps for fabric strap
