The Primula Satchel is a medium sized, cross body bag that is perfect for every day use. The flap closure is a small tab that is sewn to the bottom edge of the flap with either a turn lock or a magnetic snap. On the bag's back exterior side is one zippered pocket. The strap is sewn within the seam allowance of the top edges of the gusset on both sides of the bag. 

Inside the bag is another zippered pocket and 2 slip pockets with decorative binding along the top edge.

There are fusible interfacing options provided in this pattern allowing you to use materials you might have on hand. There are also 3 different options for making your cross body strap although the favourite option is probably seat belt webbing.

  • pattern pieces for most pieces minus smaller rectangular pieces and straps

SUPPLIES:

Exterior fabric:

3/4 yard Exterior fabric 1 (44” W)
1/4 yard Contrast fabric (Cork/Vinyl) (54” W)

Lining fabric:

1.5 yard Lining fabric (44” W)

Interfacing:

5 yards Fusible woven interfacing (20” wide)**
1/4 yard Fusible fleece (45” wide)
1/4 yard Firm Sew-in Stabilizer (Pellon Peltex 70/Stiff Stuff interfacing) (20" wide)
1 yard Foam interfacing

Notions and Supplies:

(2) 12” zipper tape with single pull (#4.5 or #5)
(1) turn lock OR 18mm strong magnetic snap
(2) 1.5” rectangle rings
(1) 1.5” rectangle slide
(1) 6” craft stick

Optional: rivets

Other: double-sided tape or fabric glue, fabric pen, fray check

MEASUREMENTS:  12” W x 9” H x 3” D (30.5 cm x 22.9 cm x 7.6 cm)

SEWING EXPERIENCE: This pattern is best suited to an intermediate bag maker but confident beginners could probably manage while following along with the video tutorial. It will probably take between 6-8 hours to make your first bag but the second would probably take a lot less time.
